Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Use pure vanilla extract for better flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar Essential for activating baking soda.
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil Optional for added richness.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) for even baking.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients (flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt) until evenly mixed.
  3. Make three wells in the dry mixture. Add vegetable oil, vinegar, and vanilla extract into each well. Pour in water last, then mix all ingredients together until you achieve a smooth batter.
Baking
  1. Pour the batter into a greased 9x13 inch baking pan.
  2. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Cooling and Serving
  1. Once baked, allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes.
  2. Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Enjoy it plain or topped with frosting or whipped cream.

Notes

For best results, measure ingredients accurately and do not skip the cooling step to prevent the cake from tearing when sliced. Keep ingredients fresh and avoid overmixing for a light texture.
