Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper for easy release.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg (if using).
- In another bowl, combine melted butter, eggs, vanilla extract, and milk. Whisk until fully mixed.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently just until combined. Avoid overmixing, as this can make your bread tough.
- Fold in the chopped apples gently.
Baking
- If you wish to make a streusel topping, mix together brown sugar, flour, and cinnamon in a small bowl. Sprinkle this topping over the batter in the pan.
- Pour the batter into your prepared loaf pan, smoothing out the top with a spatula.
- Place in the oven and bake for about 50-60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Once baked, allow the bread to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
Choose apples good for baking, like Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji. Consider adding nuts or dried cranberries for texture. Store wrapped at room temperature for up to three days or freeze for longer storage.
